As with the last endurance race, the first round of SuperOne had some difficulties. We introduced another new Formula K chassis for Reece but everything was against us today. Reece was thrown in at the deep end as he’d just returned from abroad two days previous to the race weekend and was presented with a chassis which he’d never driven. Along with this, the weather was terrible and the competition was fierce.
During practice, a number of engines were tested but we couldn’t get a great deal of information as the weather was so poor and we were off the pace. Towards the end of practice we realised the wet tyres being used were all bad and a new set was purchased. Reece immediately saw the gains from the new rubber but it may have been a little late to make progress over the weekend.
Reece qualified mid pack but the times looked much better than we had previously seen and Reece was getting more accustomed to the kart with every run. Reece had an average run in the heats but did enough for the finals. When the finals came on Sunday the officials cancelled the event due to the weather conditions.
As with the endurance, the next series of tests we have planned will iron out any information we need to know about the new equipment. The positive news of this weekend was the Formula K kart being first and second in all practice, qualifying and heats. In some cases over 7 seconds clear of the rest of the field.
