OEKC Round 4 – Whilton Mill
June 9th 2013

After a very tough start to the endurance season we arrived at Whilton Mill ready to turn our luck around and get a solid result. The results this season for all teams have failed to be consistent so even though we’re mid table in the championship we are in touching distance of the top half and still believe our title hopes are alive. It seems a strange season all round.

Quite a few of the other teams had engine failures during the previous race so everyone was given extra practice time alongside these teams who were running in their rebuilt engines. As usual, the kart setup felt good and we were quick immediately. Once qualifying started we continued as per previous meetings and put the kart on pole.

On this occasion we decided to change the driver line-up and start the race with Richard. We got a good start and lead into the first corner. During the early laps we battled at the front and settled down to second position. The first five teams became the front running pack and had quite a margin to the remainder of the field.

At around 50mins into the race a new disaster struck! The throttle stared to stick open at random intervals which resulted in the throttle cable snapping. The kart was pushed back to the pits for repair. Once again our luck deserted us and we were last. We quickly got going again and chased the field from the back. Good driving and tactics got us into 6th position before a bigger disaster hit. The engine blew.

We put our spare engine on and continued to the race but didn?t have enough time to get to the front again. We finished in 17th position out of 30 teams.
