OEKC Round 5 – Lydd
July 21st 2013
We arrived at Lydd in desperate need of a good result and hoping to better our third place of the previous year. With a season filled with bad luck this was our last chance to fight for top three position in the championship. Practice was a slight struggle as the weather was cold having rained the night before and we had no grip. Most of the practice session was spent trying to get more grip but not too much as the track would gain grip as the race progressed. As we have seen all season, we finished in first position during qualifying and started on pole.
We started the race and maintained our first position. We made a brilliant pit stop which was the best of the season so far and continued the race in first position. During the second stint we started to slip back and pitted from seventh place. Another good pit stop saw us make up places and end the third stint in third place. During our forth and final stint we were back up to second place when the brake pedal bolt snapped and forced us to pit to fix the problem. We re-joined the race in thirteenth place and tried to make up ground. Within the last part of the race the chassis snapped on the seat upright and we were forced to stop again. After assessing the problem we decided it was too dangerous to continue. This marked the first time we had ever not finished a race.
