OEKC Round 6 – Daytona Milton Keynes
August 18th 2013
After the Lydd race we had to purchase another chassis as our previous chassis was not safe to race. We rebuilt the kart with new parts and tested at Milton Keynes. We had a great test and found a lot of time while trying different parts and working on setup.
Race day came and our practice session was spent confirming our findings from the test session. All was ok and Jon qualified in sixth position which we were all extremely happy with as he has never taken part in a qualifying session. We had a slow start to the race as Richard found some difficulties in passing the opposition. Speed was great and the top six moved away from the rest of the field. We eventually moved up a few positions to third before the first round of pit stops. We rejoined and continued to move forward. Toward the end of the second stint we had a tangle with another kart who turned in on us and went off track. After this the kart wasn?t the same to drive and we struggled for speed. We continued but the kart was now under-steering when turning right and over-steering while turning left. We checked everything over during the next stop but opted to continue as adjusting anything would cost further time. We kept slipping back down the field and ended the race in twelfth position.
After the race we found the chassis was bent quite badly with the tracking out of line and a bent steering column.
