19th July 2009
Reece had a mixed days racing. Finally the new 09 engine has been approved to race, allowing Reece to show the form he showed in pre-season testing. Practice went very well and the team were relaxed going into qualifying. The first setback of the day came when the Kart was excluded from the final qualifying results due to non compliance. We had unknowingly fitted a bracket to the airbox which was not an approved regulation part as it was last year. We decided not to appeal and with this, Reece was put to the back of the grid for the first race.
Starting 15th Reece proceeded to put on a textbook performance in the wet, carving his way through the field to win the race with 4.8 seconds to spare. With this result Reece did not need to race the second race as his win promoted him to the final automatically. Starting second on the grid for the final, Reece started well only to get taken off by the 4th place man who out braked himself in turn one. Reece was nearly a lap down after getting up to speed. Reece finished the race in 12 place from a grid of 27. The disappointment was obvious but we finished the day with good points and climbed up the championship ladder and now lie in 11th position out of 46. The next round is Genk in Belgium where Reece expects to keep the momentum going.
